GVG Citylauf Erftstadt

The GVG Citylauf Erftstadt is the region’s largest running event and takes place every September. It offers a special atmosphere for everyone who loves running, from children and recreational runners to elite athletes. The 10 km main race takes runners four times through the medieval old town and Lechenich Castle Park, with numerous spectators lining the route. Shorter races for schoolchildren, families, and companies are also available; they start and finish at the market square in Erftstadt-Lechenich.

The 10 km main race is also available as a relay. All finishers in the 5 km, 10 km, or relay races are entered into a draw to win a hot-air balloon ride for two. The course is designed so that runners pass the market square several times and can be cheered on by spectators. The youngest runners have a 750 m loop; schoolchildren run 2.5 km, and the family and company race is 5 km (2 laps). The event is approved by the German Athletics Association and follows its guidelines.
