5. Biber Backyard Ultra

The Biber Backyard Ultra is a unique ultrarunning event in Simmerath/Lammersdorf, taking place on June 13, 2026. Participants run a 6.7-kilometer loop every hour, with elevation gain varying between loops, until only one runner remains. The course follows forest and field paths as well as trails, including a challenging ramp. The event is distinguished by its special ultra-backyard format, in which each loop must be completed within one hour. It offers a friendly, family atmosphere and challenges participants’ endurance and tactics in equal measure.

Registration traditionally opens on December 6 at 00:01. The course is divided into a daytime and a nighttime route. Lap times are not recorded; only the number of completed laps is counted. Start announcements are made 3, 2 and 1 minute before each lap. Personal assistance and aids during the lap are not allowed. The event has a friendly, family atmosphere and is sponsored by outdoor manufacturer OMM. The course has daytime and nighttime sections, with 110 meters of elevation gain during the day and 60 meters at night. Refreshments are available in the start/finish area, along with showers, sanitary facilities, accommodation options and community events on site.
