Race description
The Zollverein World Heritage Run takes place on September 19, 2026, on the grounds of the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen-Stoppenberg. The race routes lead over the Ring Promenade and past notable industrial monuments such as the Doppelbock headframe, the SANAA building, and the Zollverein slag heap. Various competitions are available for all age and performance levels, including a 10 km run, relays, walking events, and Special Olympics categories. The 10 km course is officially measured by the German Athletics Association (DLV) and eligible for rankings. The run combines athletic challenge with the unique atmosphere of UNESCO World Heritage.

The event offers eight different competitions, including the 10 km Zollverein Run, 3 x 3.3 km Pütt relay, 5.4 km Kumpel Run and Steiger Walk, 2.7 km Coal Mine Run, 1.2 km Schülerlauf (student race), 600 m Helen Keller Run, and 300 m Bambini Run. Parking on the grounds is free for participants and visitors. The event is easily accessible by public transport and car. International competition rules of the DLV and IAAF apply. Registration begins on May 15, 2026; the event includes team relays (Pütt Run) and offers certificates and results online.
