Herbstcross auf dem Bergfried

The Herbstcross auf dem Bergfried is a short autumn cross-country race held on the grounds of the Bergfried in Saalfeld, Germany. Distances range from 800 m to 4.8 km and are designed for fast off-road running, not long road races. The race takes place outside the stadium and is classified as both a hill race and a cross-country race. The Saalfelder Leichtathletikverein has organized the event for many years, with separate races for children and adults as well as different age groups.

The race includes categories for youth, open class, masters, and local runners from Saalfeld-Rudolstadt. Around 200 children and young people took part in a previous edition. Typical October weather is around 14 °C during the day and 6 °C at night, with an average of 40 mm of precipitation and mostly cloudy skies. The race takes place outside the stadium and includes children’s and adults’ categories, off-road and hill running. Registration deadline: September 29, 2026.
