The Grafschaft Run connects the historic towns of Rietberg, Verl, and Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock and offers runners a varied course rich in history and atmosphere. The race starts at Gut Rietberg, passing historic buildings and through the city center, continuing along the Ems River to the Gartenschau grounds. The route leads through atmospheric locations with multiple exchange points for relay runners and ends in the Holter Forest at the Hunting Lodge to Holte, which provides an impressive backdrop for the finish line. The race is characterized by diverse scenic paths, enthusiastic spectators, and a special connection between sport and regional history.

The relay race is organized as a 3-person team over 28.5 km with two exchange points in Westerwiehe and Kaunitz. The course passes through historic town centers, along the Ems River, through the Gartenschau park, and ends at the castle in Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock. There is also a 10 km run and walking options. The event emphasizes a lively atmosphere with multiple spectator points and musical accompaniment.
