The BKK Walking at Lake Baldeney is part of the Westenergie Marathon Weekend in Essen and offers a diverse program for walkers, Nordic walkers, and runners. The main marathon runs twice around Lake Baldeney with an additional turnaround loop and is characterized by a flat profile and fast bike paths. The marathon has been held annually since 1963, making it Germany's oldest event of its kind. The event is organized by the athletics department of TUSEM Essen with support from numerous volunteers.
